With the transition to more image-rich exams with advanced item types, the ABR has built two exam centers in Chicago and Tucson to administer all diagnostic radiology exams. At this time, commercial test centers do not have the technology or means available to support these kinds of exams.

Your confirmation letter will state your report or appointment time. This is the time that you need to report to the hotel (Chicago) or exam center (Tucson / Pearson) to begin the check-in process. If you are running late, please make every effort to contact the ABR. We will do everything possible to accommodate you.

To maintain an efficient process, we ask that you arrive according to your assigned report/appointment time.

Your exam will not begin until you are seated and have logged in.

The ABR recommends planning your travel arrangements so that you arrive in the destination city several hours or even the day before your exam. This will help mitigate the chance of missing your exam due to unexpected travel delays.

Yes.

In ABR exam centers, lockers are available. The locker size is 18D" x 12W" x 12H", which is large enough to store a small tote or larger purse. If your bag does not fit in this locker, it must be checked in, which would require you to return to the Renaissance Hotel if you are in Chicago.

In PearsonVUE exam centers, lockers are also available. The locker size is approximately 18D" x 15W" x 17H". The lockers should be large enough to store a small tote or larger purse. If your belongings do not fit, you must store them in your vehicle.

Yes. Food brought to the exam center must:

- fit in a gallon-sized, transparent, and sealable plastic bag,
- be non-aromatic,
- be consumable without refrigeration or heating, and
- be stored in non-spillable containers.

PLEASE NOTE: The ABR does not provide food or snacks, and there is no accessible vending machine on site. If you require nourishment during the exam, you must bring your own food.

Cough drops only are permitted in the center. However, if the consumption of this item becomes a distraction, the exam center staff may choose not to allow it.

For exams administered in ABR exam centers, the ABR will provide water for you. However, if you would like to bring your own bottle of water, you may do so.

For exams administered in Pearson VUE exam centers, you may bring a bottle of water and store it in your assigned locker.

Certain essential medical items (e.g., nitroglycerin, asthma inhalers, and diabetic supplies) may be brought into the testing area with prior ABR approval. Please submit your request to the ABR by completing the Application for Accommodations.

For additional information regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), click here.

Yes. The ABR reserves the right to check the garment before you enter the testing room. The jacket/sweater must either be worn or hanging on the back of your chair.

To ensure exam security, the following items are not permitted:

- All electronic devices, including cell phones, cameras, recording devices, calculators, personal digital assistants, pagers, and beepers.

- Watches. The time of day will be displayed on a clock in the testing room, and the time remaining in the exam session will be displayed on your computer screen.

- Study materials, books, notes, scratch paper, etc.

- Pens, pencils, highlighters, and other writing instruments. The test center will provide noteboards that will be replaced as needed. Noteboards may not be removed from the testing room and must be turned in to the test administrator when you complete each exam session.

- Bags of any kind are not allowed in the testing area. This includes all suitcases, briefcases, purses, wallets, and backpacks.

- Tobacco products.

NOTE: Candidates who fail to adhere to these policies are subject to disciplinary action, which could lead to dismissal from the exam, invalidation of the exam, disqualification from future exams, or other sanctions deemed appropriate by the ABR.

FOR THE ABR EXAM CENTERS ONLY:

ABR staff will deliver emergency messages if needed. Please provide the exam services emergency phone number listed below to anyone you feel may need it, but please understand that this number should be used for emergencies only. If there is no emergency, the message will be held until after the exam.

Chicago Exam Center – (708) 320-8378

Tucson Exam Center – (520) 369-3926

ABR exams vary in length and number of questions. Please refer to the "Exam Breakdowns" tab and select the exam about which you would like more information.

For most exams, results will be posted on each examinee's password-protected myABR account approximately four to six weeks after the exam.

Results for the DR Core and Certifying Exam are posted approximately 8 to 10 weeks after the exam. You will receive an email when your results are posted.

You are responsible for making your own travel and hotel reservations. For more information regarding local hotels and restaurants in Tucson or Chicago, please see the appropriate tab.

Call us year-round at (520)-790-2900, Mon.–Fri., 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time or send us an email.
